Dr. Peter J.G. Maris Jr. received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College of Columbia University (New York, NY).  He earned his Doctorate of Medicine from State University of New York Downstate Medical Center (Brooklyn, NY) followed by a medical internship at Lenox Hill Hospital (New York, NY).  He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute of Columbia University Medical Center ( New York, NY).  This was followed by a one-year fellowship in glaucoma at the Hamilton Eye Institute of the University of Tennessee (Memphis, TN) with Dr. Peter A. Netland, and then an additional one-year fellowship in cornea, external disease & refractive surgery at Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island (Rockville Centre, NY) / Nassau University Medical Center (East Meadow, NY), under the tutelage of Drs. Henry D. Perry and Eric D. Donnenfeld.

Dr. Maris  maintains surgical privileges at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute / Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Mercy Hospital, Nassau University Medical Center, and Island Eye Surgicenter, the most  advanced ambulatory surgical eye center on Long Island.  He is a proud member of the Independent Physician Association (IPA) of the Catholic Health Services (CHS)

Dr. Peter J.G. Maris Jr. has authored several articles and book chapters in various peer-reviewed ophthalmology publications as well as lectured to professional audiences throughout the country. Dr. Maris’s research interests include the surgical management of advanced glaucoma with tube shunts and devices as well as corneal transplant rejection.
